The Breath of the World, or, On The Limits of Ecocritical Metaphors

1-2pm, 11 March 2024, Arts Seminar Room 5

Dr David Evans

In this session we will look at some metaphors which are widely used in ecocritical textual analysis, and consider how effective they are as tools for both textual analysis and thinking through cultural responses to the climate crisis. Looking at a selection of texts in French and English, we will focus in particular on the ways in which authors and critics conceptualise rhythm as a defining feature of both the poetic text and the world.

This event is part of Poetics of Landscapes, a series of workshops exploring how landscapes are written and written about.
