We are inviting you to take part in an interactive workshop, as part of D’Elia’s European tour. D’Elia’s book was officially launched in Autumn in Bologna and will continue being presented with the programme Tiepido Cool All Over, including at the MAXXI National Museum of XXI Century Arts, Rome (Italy). The workshop is organised around three interlocking themes The workshop is organised around three interlocking themes:
multilingualism, aesthetics and environmental justice
Participants will work collectively with words and images producing prose poems in the languages they are familiar with and which they feel most appropriate for the task. The poems will be re-interpreted by the artist in time for his visit to St Andrews a month later. D’Elia will be in St Andrews on 9th March 2023 for a presentation of the book, a conversation, a performance of the poems and of critical-creative responses emerging from the workshop.
D’Elia’s presentation tour includes: Istituzione Bologna Musei (Museo Davia Bargellini, Bologna, Italy); MAXXI, Museum of 21st-Century Art (Rome, Italy); Myymälä2 Gallery (Helsinki, Finland); and GRAD Cultural Center (Belgrade, Serbia). This international tour aims to explore diverse contexts and visual cultures by means of a series of workshops investigating ‘the relationship between cultural attitudes and perception in each context and with specific targets.’ It will end at the MAXXI Museum in Rome in spring 2023 where intermediate stages in Finland, Serbia, Scotland and Austria will be featured.
We are developing three research strands:
- multilingualism (re-mapping languages through the prism of ‘coolness’ and ‘warmth’).
- aesthetics: poetry and poetics (exploring the possibility of a poetics of ‘coolness’ and ‘warmth’
- transcultural studies and the role of humanities in the context of climate change and its impact on the environment (exploring formulations of ‘climate disaster’ as well as the link between warmth, coolness and social justice)
