Jocelyn Saidenberg is a writer, educator, and performer based in the Bay Area. Her recent books include: kith & kin (The Elephants, 2018), Dead Letter (Roof Books, 2014), and Negativity (Atelos Press, 2007). In her work she wagers that poetry has the capacity to open up imaginative, psychic, and structural enclosures. Her poetic and hybrid texts engage with questions of ethics and community by contesting individualist discourses through experimental enactments in language of diverse subjectivities, places, and temporalities. And in its textual hybridity, her work resists the distinctions between creative expression and critical or theoretical reflection. Since 1998 she has worked as the founding editor and publisher for Krupskaya Press and has curated literary events through Bay Area arts organizations. She has taught creative writing at UC Berkeley, the Prison University Project at San Quentin State Prison, and the Arts in Correction program at Deuel Vocational State Prison. She is currently a visiting professor at Deep Springs College in the Owens Valley in California.
